"גיהוץ שדיים" היא מנהג שמקורו באפריקה ובמהלכו "מגהצות" נשים בוגרות את ניצני שדיהן של נערות צעירות באמצעות אבנים חמוד, בכדי למנוע או להאט את גדילתם. אלא שלאחרונה הופך המנהג הזה לנפוץ יותר ויותר בקרב קהילות המהגרים בבריטניה והרשויות חסרות אונים, כך לפי דיווח בגרדיאן הבריטי.

מטרתו של המנהג לעכב את התפתחות השדיים ובכך "להגן" על הבנות מפני תשומת לב גברית לא רצויה ואונס. פעולת ה"גיהוץ" נעשית בדרך כלל על ידי האם. במהלך ההליך מניחה האם אבן רותחת על השדיה של הנערה בכדי לצלק את הרקמה וחוזרת על ההליך אחת לכמה שבועות, לפי מה שנדרש.

breast ironing is practiced in all ten regions of cameroon, and has also been reported across west and central africa. all of cameroon's 200 ethnic groups engage in breast ironing, with no known relation to religion, cultural traditions, socio-economic status or any other identifier. a 2006 survey by German development agency GIZ of more than 5000 cameroonian girls and women between the ages of 10-82 estimated that early one in four had undergone breast ironing. the survey also reported that it was more commonly practiced in urban areas, where mothers feared that their children would be sexually violated. breast ironing can lead to a number of dire consequences, such as tissue damage, breast infections, interference with breastfeeding and may lead to more threatening health problems, like breast cancer. however, despite all of these issues, there is no law against the practice. according to one cameroonian lawyer determines damage to the breasts as a result of breast ironing, the perpetrator can be punished by up to 3 years in prison, provided the matter was reported within a few months. it is unclear such a law exists as there are no recorded evidence of legal enforcement. apparently, this is an issue in Britain too, with hundreds of British mothers physically mutilating their children's breasts using hot rocks, hammers and spatulas. it is unclear how widespread the practice is because no official figures are kept and most victims keep silent. לפי הערכות של עובדות סוציאליות ופעילות לזכויות אדם במדינה, למרות שעד כה הגיעו למשטרה רק כמה עשרות משפחות בהן נעשה ההליך, ההערכות הן כי ברחבי בריטניה אלפי נערות עוברות את ההליך הכואב והמסוכן. 

לפי הדיווחים לא נעשו מעצרים בעקבות הפרקטיקה וגם המשפחות אשר הגיעו למשטרה שוחררו לאחר שנעשתה איתם שיחה בה הוסבר להם על הסכנות שבהליך וכי הוא, בסופו של דבר, לא באמת עובד. 

בינתיים, ממשלת בריטניה אומרת כי היא מחויבת לשים קץ לפרקטיקה, אם כי עדיין לא ברור כיצד זה יבוצע.
