תם עידן. ג'רארד פיקה הפתיע הערב (חמישי) והודיע על פרישה מכדורגל כבר באמצע העונה, כשהוא עוד לא בן 35. אחד השחקנים הגדולים של הדור האחרון ישחק מול אלמריה ביום שבת את משחקו האחרון. עיתונאים ואוהדים עשו לו כבוד.
רובן אוריה מאתר גול הספרדי כתב: "ג'רארד פיקה היה אחד משחקי ההגנה הכי טובים בכדורגל האירופי ואחד הגדולים בהיסטוריה של ברצלונה. הוא ראוי לפרידה הולמת. הוא אגדה אותנטית".
אושיית הרדיו, אלפרדו מרטינס צייץ: "פיקה ראוי לפרידה של אחד האלופים והקפטנים הכי גדולים שיש. 15 שנים על החולצה של ברצלונה".
צ'אבי למוס, עיתונאי קטאלוני, הוסיף: "להוציא את רגעי המחלוקת, מבחינה ספורטיבית פיקה היה אחד הבלמים הגדולים בהיסטוריה. בסוף, זה לא מה שהוא תיכנן או רצה שיקרה, אבל זה לא מוריד מהחשיבות שלו להיסטוריה של ברצלונה".
גארי ליניקר, חלוץ העבר ועיתונאי בהווה, סיכם: "אני מאחל לפיקה את כל הטוב שבעולם אחרי הפרישה. אחד הענקים של המשחק שלנו. פשוט כדורגלן נפלא שזכה בהכל. הוא יחסר לנו".
