לפי הכתבת ג`ניפר ג`ייקובס מ-CBS, צוות האבטחה תיקל אותו והרחיקו מהנושא כאשר צוות הבית הלבן והעיתונאים האחרים היו מרוכזים בהופעה עצמה. הוא לא שודר כלל בטלוויזיה כאמור, כאשר הוא רץ מאחורי הרקדנים בעודו מניף את הדגל הפלסטיני והסודני. הוא אף תועד לרגע קצר מאחורי סרינה וויליאמס וזכה, כצפוי, למחמאות מפרו פלסטינים.
