חודש ספטמבר בשיאו, תקופת החגים מתקרבת בצעדי ענק, וזה כבר לגמרי השלב הראוי לשאול - איך היה הקיץ שלכם? נקווה שלא כמו זה שעבר על הנסיך הארי ומייגן מרקל המסכנים, שעל פי מקורות מלכותיים מוגדר כ"קיץ מהגיהנום", ולא בגלל ההתחממות הגלובלית שהגיעה לממלכה. 

"ההתנהגות שלהם לאחרונה היא אסון של יחסי ציבור עבור ארמון בקינגהאם, שלא מצליח להשתלט עליהם", אומרת ל-Page Six הפרשנית המלכותית, ליידי קולין קמפבל. ואכן, נראה כי אחרי תקופה של שקט יחסי ואפילו אופוריה קלה בעקבות לידת ארצ'י, בשבועות האחרונים הכותרות השליליות פשוט לא משחררות את הזוג המלכותי.

בשבוע שעבר, למשל, פרסם עיתון ה"סאן" דיווח ביקורתי במיוחד על כך שמייגן הודיעה, לכאורה, לצוות שעבד איתה על עריכת גיליון "ווג", כי היא רוצה "לשבור את האינטרנט". "לא ג'מה קולינס, לא קים קרדשיאן, אפילו לא ויקטוריה בקהאם - הדוכסית מסאסקס היא זו ששיחררה את ההצהרה הזאת", כתב העורך דן ווטון בטור שתהה אם מרקל מתכוונת להיות "בת מלוכה אמיתית או נסיכה הוליוודית". על כך הוסיפה קמפבל כי מייגן היא "שחקנית קטנה שמשחקת בליגה של הגדולים ועושה את זה בצורה קטסטרופלית".

זה הגיע קצת אחרי סערת המטוסים הפרטיים המתישה, אותה סיכם הנסיך הארי בטענה שהוא עושה הכל עבור ביטחון משפחתו. "כשבן מלוכה מטיף למודעות אקולוגית בפומבי ואז עושה ההפך בחייו הפרטיים, הוא לא אמור להיות מופתע כשקוראים לו צבוע", אמר מקור בארמון. לכך מצטרפות גם שתי "פרשות הטניס" של מייגן - הדרישה שלא יצלמו אותה בווימבלדון והגיחה הניו-יורקית הטריה שגררה שיימינג הורות.

למרבה הצער, לא סביר שהרוחות יירגעו בקרוב - רק להפך. בשבועות הקרובים אמורה המשפחה הקטנה לצאת לטור בדרום אפריקה, וסוגיית נוכחותו של ארצ'י הקטן לא מבשרת טובות. "מייגן והארי לא רוצים שיצלמו את ארצ'י כשהם נוחתים, והתקשורת כבר מתחילה להתמרמר", אמר העורך לשעבר של המדור המלכותי ב"סאן". "אם קודם היה מתח סביב הטור, עכשיו זה רק מחמיר". אז עדיף שכולנו נתחיל לנשום עמוק כבר מעכשיו.

Today, we are excited to be able to announce details for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming tour to Africa! • In just two weeks, Their Royal Highnesses will embark on this official tour focusing on community, grassroots leadership, women’s and girls’ rights, mental health, HIV/AIDS and the environment. This programme has been many months in the making, and The Duke and Duchess are eager to focus their energies on the great work being done in Southern Africa. From meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu to joining ‘Waves for Change’ on Monwabisi Beach, the South Africa programme will be educational and inspiring. The Duke is especially proud to continue the legacy left by his mother with her work in Angola as he joins Halo Trust again in an effort to rid the world of landmines. HRH will also travel to Malawi where he will check in on the British Army’s partnership with African Parks and will be working on the ground supporting local communities. The Duke is particularly proud to be able to deliver an exciting new initiative, a Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy three-country partnership which he designed and consulted with Governments in Namibia, Botswana and Angola to protect forest and wildlife corridors around the Okavango Delta. The Duchess will be working with local organisations to promote women and girls’ health and education, entrepreneurship and leadership. With such a textured culture and history, Their Royal Highnesses are grateful for the opportunity to connect with those on the ground in Southern Africa and to be inspired by the work being done and learn how they can be better supported.
